"Blessings" by Chance the Rapper

chancestuff.com

I was reminded of the unique works and faith of Chicago-native Chancelor Bennett, better known as Chance the Rapper, by this recent news article. I took a listen to his songs where he invokes his faith. It's good to see how God has blessed and empowered Bennett's life and work (e.g. his abstinence from drugs, his reconciliation with his now-wife), and he continually advocates for the marginalized of Chicago.

His song, "Blessings," (especially the chorus, which seems to give a nod to Black Gospel music with its piano accompaniment) would work well in many church services, particularly ones where rap/hip-hop are appreciated. Chorus lyrics below:

I'm gon' praise Him, praise Him 'til I'm gone

Don't be mad

I'm gon' praise Him, praise Him 'til I'm gone

When the praises go up

Good God

The blessings come down

Good God

When the praises go up, good God, the blessings come down

When the praises go up

It seems like blessings keep falling in my lap

The blessings come down

When the praises go up, the blessings come down

Good God
