I've written about Maverick City Music, the multicultural, worship songwriting think-tank, many times before. They create powerful songs that are a blend of contemporary and black Gospel, and they also write songs in Spanish. Maverick City Music has also been able to work with popular names in worship songwriting in the United States (e.g. Bethel, Elevation).
Last month, they released a new song called "New Wine." As we begin a new year, this song helps us to ponder the ways God works in us for good, including new beginnings (sometimes involving painstakingly getting rid of the old). Lyrics below:
In the crushing
In the pressing
You are making new wine
In the soil
I now surrender
You are breaking new ground
So I yield to You into Your careful hand
When I trust You I don't need to understand
So, make me Your vessel
Make me an offering
Make me whatever
You want me to be
I came here with nothing
But all You have given me
Jesus, bring new wine out of me
'Cause where there is new wine
There is new power
There is new freedom
And the Kingdom is here
I lay down my old flames
To carry Your new fire today
'Cause where there is new wine
There is new power
There is new freedom
And the Kingdom is here
I lay down my old flames
To carry Your new fire today
So just breathe on us
Won’t You breathe on us
Won’t You breathe on me
