My mother, being the daring creative teacher, gave me my first two "non-Christian" rock albums when we were living in a Christian proverbial bubble and the industry of contemporary Christian music was just getting launched. For my 9th birthday, I got U2's "Rattle and Hum" and Collective Soul's "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid." The opening track is a song called "Shine."
And no, this isn't the song by the Newsboys, Matt Redman, Luther Vandross, Lil Wayne, or the dozens of other artists who have compositions or albums of that title. Maybe I'm being nostalgic and wishful, but I'm curious if a church has ever used this song in any way, and if it could be used today (potentially modified and updated). Or is it a song that came and went before churches thought about using songs with Christian-themed lyrics but from a "secular label" band?
